Vertical Platform Lifts

Vertical platform lifts, also known as porch lifts, are useful for patients who use powerchairs, manual wheelchairs, and scooters. These lifts are ideal for homes and businesses with confined spaces where there is not ample room for a ramp. Porch lifts can hold up to 1000 lbs. and reach as high as 15 feet depending upon the model. Call Med X Change for pricing details.
  • Why would I choose a vertical platform lift over a ramp?

When surrounding space is limited or higher rises are present, a vertical platform lift is the ideal home access solution for any difficult porch, deck, or other raised entry. Modular ramps will require a lot more space as ADA regulations state that a foot of ramp is required for every inch of rise. For example, deck stairs with 8 steps would require 8 feet of ramp to be compliant. A vertical platform lift is also more aesthetically pleasing than the aluminum modular ramps.

  • What happens if my lift needs repair?

Med X Change offers a full-service repair shop for parts and repairs of your equipment. Our certified technicians can diagnose and repair all wheelchairs that we sell and typically any other brand that we do not sell. We can perform repairs in our shop or our technicians can come to you at your convenience. Service calls are made for an additional charge.

Stairlifts

Stairlifts are motorized chairs that travel along a rail mounted to the treads of stairs. The rider should be able to get on and off the chair independently or with assistance in the form of a walker or cane only. Stair lifts can be installed on straight stairs or curved stairs. These lifts allow people to be independent in their homes by giving them the freedom to travel from floor to floor.
  • How safe is a stairlift?

All stairlift manufacturers have mandatory safety requirements that are built in to their products. The chairs have armrests and safety belts to keep the occupant safely and comfortably in the chair. There are also multiple safety stop sensors in place to ensure that the chair stops if anything gets stuck in the tracks or under the chair.

  • Can the stairs be used in a normal capacity with a stairlift installed?

The stairs can still be used under normal circumstances. There will be a small amount of track at the side of the stairs to navigate around, and the chair seat, hand rails, and foot plate will all fold up to create more space for normal use of the stairs. A person would have no problem using the stairs to walk up or down them, but you may have to work around the chair if you're carrying larger items.
